Judge Chitty was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the 422nd District Court when it was created in January, 2004 by the Texas Legislature. He ran successfully for a four year term in November, 2004.

Judge Chitty practiced law from 1973 to 2004 representing both plaintiffs and defendants in a broad variety of cases, including probate, real estate, deceptive trade practices , torts, criminal, commercial, construction, family, municipal, water, securities, employment, tax and bankruptcy. 

Judge Chitty is a member of the State Bar of Texas  and is licensed to practice in all state courts as well as the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas and the U. S. Tax Court.   Judge Chitty also served as a special counsel to the State Republican Party and President of the Kaufman County Bar Association.

Judge Chitty is a life-long resident of Kaufman County, he attended Southern Methodist University graduating with  high honors receiving his BBA and Juris Doctor degrees.
During his service on the 422nd District Court bench, Judge Chitty has presided over thousands of family, civil and criminal court proceedings and disposed of more than 2,000 felony criminal cases.  He is committed to the fair, efficient, and timely disposition of cases, consistent with justice, while affording all citizens the courtesy and dignity they deserve in our courts.

Judge Chitty is a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Terrell as well as Rotary Club of Terrell, Kaufman Lions Club and serves as President of the Terrell Alliance for Education and the Arts and as a board member of the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority and has served on numerous boards and commissions in Terrell and Kaufman County.
