County Welcomes New Elections Administrator

With elections being one of the most important functions of the county, the role of an Elections Administrator is extremely vital in maintaining election integrity. Kaufman County welcomes Tandi Smith as the new Election Administrator who brings with her, a very impressive election coordination and administration background.
Tandi has worked in the election atmosphere since 1998. She was awarded her CERA (Certified Elections/Registration Administrator) status in August 2015, from Auburn University in conjunction with the Election Center. She also earned a Certificate in Public Leadership in July 2019 from the Pepperdine School of Public Policy conjunction with the International Association of Government Officials (iGO).
From 2013-20 Tandi managed the Dallas County Election Day area with 468 polling locations and 6,000 workers and in May 2021 she managed both Early Voting and Election Day voting with 51 early voting sites and 462 election day sites.
“When the Elections Commission saw the significant experience Tandi has performed in election administration, there was no question that she was the best suited candidate for this important position,” said County Judge Hal Richards. “Not only that, but her professional demeanor made her stand out as the most qualified and prepared to take on this new, and very significant role.”
Tandi is an active member of The Election Center, the Texas Association of Elections Administrators (TAEA), and the International Association of Government Officials (iGO).
“I am looking forward to this journey,” Tandi said. I look forward to working with our leaders and all members of our community to ensure fair, transparent, and secure elections. I believe that community partnerships are the key to this process and election integrity.”
The Elections Administrator is selected by the County Election Commission, made up of the County Judge as chair, the County Clerk as vice chair, the County Tax Assessor-Collector as Secretary, and the chair of each political party that made nominations by primary election for the last general election.
